In a field with three opponents I don’t know, I have to support Tom Fetzer for Chairman of the NC Republican Party. He's very intelligent and 100% politician.Tom never dodges a question. You may not like the answer, but you will get one.
Besides, if he wins, then the News and Observer may have to treat more of us Republicans decent again. Or risk his wrath.
One of his greatest skills is as extraordinary fundraiser. Every political candidate knows that it takes lots of money to adequately finance a winning campaign.
There seems to be a split amongst Wake County Republicans. I don't know who’s mad at who and I could care less. Tom’s one of us.
Oh Lawd, let me clarify that. He's one of us Raleigh Republicans.
His closest opponent seems to be Chad Adams, who may be a nice guy. Except he didn't answer my email. A couple months back no one would directly answer my question either about the Party’s view on moderates.
There is a rush by younger party operatives to get involved in high stakes politics. Yet, this office requires management expertise and maturity. Because the only way that Republicans are going to win offices again is to bring a diverse group of experienced people to the table.
And, at the head must be someone who knows North Carolina from many viewpoints or have access to people who do.
Tom can be quite respectful. He'll hold the door for a lady. He doesn't make small talk very well. His dry wit will make you shake your head. He has an interesting sense of humor and can discuss any subject with little prompting.
As I said earlier, I'd like the GOP to engage in meaningful dialogue with moderate Republicans. This could make the Party more marketable. Tom won't immediately jump at the chance, however, in time I believe he will see the wisdom.
The State Republican Party will make its decision on Saturday, June 20. Party insiders know that we can't afford to dwell on the past too long. We don't have to love each other. We just need to get someone in office who will get the job.
And for his sake, I hope Tom leaves those butt-ugly glasses at home.
